Light Shining In the Eyes

I find it kind of odd that Binx isn't phased by sunlight. And here's why. I was sitting at my kitchen table one day doing my homework and the shades to my back door were open with the sun shining right in. The rays from the sun blinded almost every person that had walked by the kitchen. Unless of course that person or animal I should say was Binx.

With the sun's rays shining as bright as they possibly could into my kitchen I watched Binx walk towards the back door like it was the easiest thing he had ever done. Walking without a care in the world towards the blinding rays. I sat there wondering how he was able to do that because if I were to have walked towards the back door I know I would've ran into something because of the bright light coming in. Once Binx had gotten to the back door I believe that I had seen the most beautiful thing on a cat's body.

Binx had laid down at the back door in the sunlight. I think he liked it there because it was warm. Almost like the sunlight had attracted him just like a lamp attracts a moth. As he looked up the sunlight hit his eyes and his eyes lit up like a candle when it first lights. It looked like the sun caused his eyes to glow. They glistened and appeared to be this light yellow color. His pupils looked like ovals that had been stretched upward and whenever he would focus on something outside they would expand.

Seeing this kind of reminded me of the morning sun shining on a lake and that shining, glistening, reflection of the sky is on top of the lake. The expression on Binx's face looked like he was just enjoying the fact that a couple rays of sunshine highlighted a part of his body that no one knew could be so beautiful. It was almost like he sat at the back door just for me to realize that there's more to him than just purring or chasing flies around the house. He laid at the back door without a care in the world, the unbearable sunlight shining right in his eyes as if it didn't even phase him.

  1. I love your comparison of Binx and the sun to that of a moth and a lamp. I do not know much about the effect of light on the eyes but I do know that when more light hits the pupil it causes the pupil to shrink and vise versa when less light is present your pupil expands to let a clearer image in. If you ever get a chance stand infront of a mirror stare at your eyes reflection turn the light on and off and you will see the pupil getting bigger and smaller. It is cool.

  2. Beautiful description. Cat's eyes are truly fascinating. Is it true they can see in the dark? I wonder if their eyes dilate differently than ours?

  4. The description in this blog is very cool the way you described your cat being attracted to the sunlight like a moth to a lamp.
