Separation Anxiety... Or So I Thought

I think my little Binx has some separation anxiety. I noticed that the other morning when I was getting ready for school he was so excited to see me. Even though it had only been a couple hours since he had been around people. The other day when I had come home after school it was the something. It was like he was the happiest cat on the planet when I walked in the door as he intertwined himself between my legs. I walked in my living room with Binx right behind me and he sat on my lap when I sat on the couch. I was sitting there thinking. Do cats not like being alone for a certain amount of time or is my cat just weird and really wants some attention from people. So I did some research.

The article "Home Alone" points out that cats actually seek out other cats as friends like a new kid starting at a new school looking for friends so they are not alone. If a cat is developing some separation anxiety they will begin to show different kinds of behavior such as urinating on things and becoming destructive ("Home Alone"). Here is the website where I found my information. http://www.cdhs.net/library/view.php?26

After doing some research I realized that Binx isn't going through separation anxiety at all because he isn't peeing on anything and he isn't being destructive. As I looked at Binx, I started to wonder. Maybe cats just want to be loved and want some attention every once in a while just like we humans do. Being loved doesn't have to be from a significant other, it can be from a family member or even a friend. Everyone deserves one person to love and care for them. Even animals deserve that. Binx is looking for that person and he's found it in my family.

  1. I like how you noticed these small things that most people just over look and then took it into closer observation and researched it. You also made it really easy to find the site of where you gathered your information to come to a conclusion, so if other people are curious about their pets and home then can easily take a look.

  2. I love how you compared cats need to be loved to humans. I think every creature, big or small, deserves the same love us humans want. Your blog is beautiful overall.

  3. I've heard of dogs tearing up furniture due to separation anxiety. It's like they get angry and want to punish their people for not being there. Perhaps negative attention is better than no attention. Binx is lucky to have a loving family.

  4. I totally agree sometimes people or cats in this case only want to be loved. I liked how you added that love doesn't have to come from a significant other, but by pretty much anyone. :)

  5. It's crazy how animals can develop separation anxiety. That just proves you mean so much to your cat in my opinion and I happen to think it's cute.
